TV TALK: TITANIC A CENTURY LATER
At last, after long weeks of wait, Titanic: A Century Later premieres last night (April 8, 2012). I really tried my best just to catch this premiere of documentaries. The part 1 which was aired last night 9:00pm features two documentaries. The first documentary, ‘Save The Titanic With Bob Ballard’, features Robert “Bob” Ballard –the man who discovered the wreck of the Titanic on September 1, 1985—trying to make sure that the Titanic has its future. To do this, he traced family members of an elite group of Titanic builders and designers who also sailed during its maiden voyage, the Guarantee Group. The documentary presented the members of the elite group and their part on designing and building the ship. After this, Bob Ballard convinced their family members to support him in his mission to save and protect the Titanic.
The second documentary in Titanic: A Century later features award-winning director of Titanic, James Cameron, investigating and finding out what really happened in the night Titanic sank. He was joined by other experts. The documentary was entitled ‘The Final Word with James Cameron’. And in relation to the title, James Cameron gave his final word about the Titanic after finding out the true story behind the sinking. James Cameron said that “what fascinates many about the Titanic is that this ship is a little encapsulation of our world today”. He expounded that we are now about to hit another iceberg which is global warming, and we will not be able to avoid this iceberg if the momentum and system of our ‘ship’ would not change. He pointed out that what ‘drives’ our ‘ship’ to continue hitting that ‘iceberg’ is the political, business, and economic momentums.
I was really inspired by these documentaries to know more about the Titanic. And I experienced goose bumps when Cameron stated his final word for the Titanic…
The two documentaries’ runtime (including the commercial breaks) is three hours so I really need to wait until it is finished at nearly twelve midnight. J I think I would like to call myself a ‘Titanic buff’.
Tonight the last documentary will be aired entitled ‘Case Closed’ and I think it will deal in figuring out the whole story and closing Titanic’s case.
